Our Awesome Ratroom!

We are very lucky to be able to dedicate a whole room just to our little ratty family. The following shows what we've been able to do with the room so far, although we are always trying to make it better!

A wide shot of the room.

Drawers are lots of fun for rats! You can stuff the drawers with all kinds of things. Can you spot the rat in this picture?

As you can see, we use a lot of kids' toys for our rats. They love them! Can you spot the rat in this picture?

This three holed carpeted ferret toy is one of our rats' favorite. That's Teeka modeling it for us.

We built a stairway of bricks for our rats to get from the table to the floor. It's great for wearing down their nails.

Here is our rats custom made stainless steel cage. It's 6' by 2' by 2'. We are working on litter training our rats so we use washable rugs in the cage and on top of the cage so our rats don't have to ever walk on wire. We use three litter boxes in the cage, filled with Yesterday's News cat litter. We also put several around the room. Notice the lip of foam core we taped to the edge of the table to keep our rats from falling off

The rest of the table.

Our rats LOVE digging in there laundry basket of rags. Teeka is saying hi, and Bindi is buried deep within.

Here is the comfy chair we put in there to sit on. It's covered with a waterproof mattress pad and a blanket. And more drawers to play in!

This just shows the door out and the door to the treat closet. We had to add some wood boards to the bottom of each door because they both had a large enough gap on them that our rats could have crawled underneath them.

The treat closet is packed full of healthy cereals, dry fruit, nuts, and some naughty stuff like marshmallows.

The two blue bins in this shot are filled with ratty toys that we use to swap out with old ones. We like to change things up once a month to add enrichment to our rats lives. The white bin holds our rats' litter, Yesterday's News. You can also see the removable doors from their cage, along with the heater we use to heat the room in the cold winters.

This picture shows how we covered the outlet and cord to the heater so the rats couldn't chew on it. It's a drainage tube, cut in half, and taped to the wall over the outlet.

Here is my collection of rat stuff. The green dish on the bottom of the picture is what I use for pea fishing.

Here is some of the pictures I have hanging in the room including my favorite one, a poster of a rat/virgo I got off the internet. They are both my signs.

Every rat room should have a thermometer so you know that the temperature is comfortable for your little ratties.
